Real Estate Agent with License Currently On Hold Due To Market Conditions

I am not sure that this is much of a Blog. To me it is more of a Blurb. Anyay, I have been a Full Time Realtor since March 31, 2005. In 2005 I was with the Yellow Company and they had some training and gave me a Mentor. My Mentor had not sold anything in over 2 yrs. I had doubts. Another Mentor was assigned to me soon after the first at my request. This Mentor was slightly more successful. She sat me down week after week and had me sit and WATCH her answer phones. She would not permit me to answer them. I did not learn well that way as she was not explaining which buttons on the archaic phone to press etc. Another Newer Realtor who was doing very well took an interest in how I was feeling and showed me the phones and allowed me to answer them so I could get some Up Calls. Unfortunately, by this time it was already July almost August and I had gone months with no possibility of Up Calls as my Mentor would not allow me to answer phones. About this time the Market was still pretty good but it didn't matter because I wasn't getting Up Calls. I was door knocking on my own and making cold calls. Then finally one day in early August 2005, I got an Up Call and took the Buyers out. They decided they wanted to go for a FSBO next door to where I showed them on their own. Anyway it didn't work out and they called me a week later. I explained I could assist them with any of their Real Estate needs. They decided to make an offer on the condo I showed them previously. It went through, I sold my first house and earned a WHOPPING $2,500. Shortly after I left this big Yellow company because I wanted to work with clients in a more affluent neighboring area and they refused to work with me, due to the location of my office.

I moved on to another company. Almost immediately, I got a listing. It was over priced but I didn't care, it was mine! It eventually was withdrawn because the Seller did not want to lower the price. He eventually lowered it with another agent and missed the market, selling for much less.I kept asking my Broker for help, but she really didn't provide much. I was on my own. In fact, several times she took my Farm area away to give to other realtors she felt more deserving. This of course, screwed with my productivity. A few months of continuing to work 50 hr weeks(it is now 2006)with no success went by. I got an expired Discount Realtors listing. It sold within a few months and I made a whopping $3,000. Another couple of months went by and I got another Listing through a family member (it was her friend). I took extra special care of them since they were good friends of a relative. The listing price I took it at was slightly overpriced, the real problem was their location. They were located on a major road and would not listen to reason that they needed to lower their price dramatically due to the market tanking and the added problem of location. I was sent mean e-mails where they called me names and made fun of my abilities. I did not once lash out at them! Instead of my Broker backing me she took over the listing, removing my name completely. This really insulted me, so I left.

I am now with my third company. This Mgr. has busted her butt to make me productive. She has even gone on Listing Appts with me! I attend coaching sessions with my Mgr and some other agents in the office. I also have a Mentor. Mentors many times are not worth the money you pay (enough said?) I have been farming bi-monthly faithfully to my farm. I also walk it and nothing! All of a sudden a few weeks ago, I began getting listings I now have 4 and a Closing on Monday. I also have 1 of my Listings in Attorney Review. All of this progress after spending tons of time and money. I will take it! To those of you struggling, you could not have had less success than I and now look at me. Keep at it, it will pay off!

You surely get A+++ for perseverence.  Now you know why so many agents get in and out of the business in a year or so.  One thing for sure.  In this business, you need either savings to fall back on and invest in your business for a year or so OR, spousal support.  Looks like you had spousal support and he deserves a hug.

Oh my goodness! So right Lenn! I forgot to mention how supportive my husband; Rick is. Luckily, he is in the Construction Building business so he kind of had a sense of what I was going through. Luckily he receives a steady income otherwise there would be no being a Realtor for me.

Congratulations Sherri!  You have worked long and hard for this and it is unfortunate you didn't get paired up with Brokerage C to begin with!  I just switched brokerages back in November and while I had some success with Brokerage A, I am going in full bloom with Brokerage B.

It's great that you have a place that you feel comfortable with now. Bottom line in Real Estate is it's all up to ourselves. Keep farming and never stop. Please your customers and the referrals will keep coming.

There is a Rookie Realtor Group here. I think this would make a nice Blurb:) for that if you wouldn't mind joining the group and posting it in there. If not, no problem. Keep up the great work!
