ActiveRain Contest - Overcoming Tactical Addiction

By
Real Estate Technology with 855-419-6019

Shiny new.... what?

How many times have you heard the you-MUST-be-doing-this-one-thing-or-you-will-FAIL speech? Real estate has no shortage of great technologies. And behind those technologies lie companies making hard pitches on sales tactics, conversion tactics, closing tactics … all centered around their software.

You’re promised quick returns to boost your business -- all you have to do is implement the ‘suggested’ tactic. But have you noticed with the extra work and new tactics, you’re not seeing the massive results you expected?

It’s easy to get addicted to shiny, new tools and software, allured by the promise of X result and Y outcome -- but without a strategy and a focus on the bigger picture, sometimes you end up in the gutter instead of the million-dollar house.

So, here’s our challenge:

We want to know what 3 things you can eliminate from your day-to-day to keep an eye on the bigger strategy. Show us how you’re working smarter, rather than harder! Are you sharing your listings to your friends on Facebook (even those that live thousands of miles away) instead of promoting on your Facebook business page? What about mass emailing your entire sphere with information that isn't relevant to EVERYBODY just to stay "top of mind"? Or how about attempting to design and maintain 10 different websites that address your brand, buyers, sellers, and every neighborhood that you service? The entry with the best response will win an Apple Watch.

  • Comment below with your 3 things that you can REMOVE from your day to day activities that you think will help you be more productive. If you are already working at maximum production - what are 3 things that you have eliminated in the past that have helped you stay on top of things? Everybody who participates will receive 1,000 ActiveRain points. The winner will receive 5,000 points for their entry!
  • All comments must be submitted by Tuesday May 31st at 11:59pm EST.
  • The winner will be chosen the following week!
  • Want to learn more about how you can focus on tactics that will move the needle? Attend our webinar on May 17th to hear strategies and tips around why it's important to develop and maintain an overarching strategy by using tried and true tactics versus trying every new tool that comes along.

The 3 things I have or plan to eliminate are:

1. I am eliminating the unknown, by writing my blogs ahead and scheduling so that i do not miss a day. A blog a day is a great recipe to attract new clients. Not scheduling sometimes has me so busy, that i do not make it back to Active Rain to get that blog posted.

2. I have changed security settings to eliminate span emails. I was getting over 200 emails a day which is a huge time waster.

3. I am eliminating time wasters in my office. Those include sales calls, water cooler talk and walk ins that have no ability to purchase and no home to sell. Every day i see a half dozen walk ins or more. With say 42 walk ins a week, maybe 2 are customers and 40 want to sell me something or ask questions for free.

I have made some changes this year to give me more time for myself and for time to get out and meet new people.

1) I have scaled back my time on social media. I plan to focus more time on those aspects of social media which have given me a return on my time investment. Right now that is my blog.

2) My office is being remodeled. I'm not painting or putting in new flooring, but I'm reorganizing for efficiency. I'm also changing the pictures on the wall, to something I feel more comfortable with. I inherited this office, and haven't completely personalized it yet.

3) Even though I'm making my office more about me, I have been spending less time in the office. I'm out and about more in the community meeting new people. I've been doing this for two months, and I've gotten several new buyer leads and I've had fun doing it.

3 things I eliminated that have really made a huge difference for me....that's easy.

1. Stay focused on the task/project I'm working on now. I used to get distracted by phone calls, texts or whatever and it would take me much longer to get back on track. In fact it took a lot more time to re-group and get focused again.

2. Clean up my email and get rid of every last junk mail on a daily basis.  My inbox used to be so full of crap. I didn't want to take the time to clean it up as so I used to let it build up until it was ridiculous.  Now I get rid of stuff right away so I never have to deal with it again.

3.  Many years ago (due to a great mentor of mine)I made a choice to stop spending time with people that are downers, always complaining, blaming others, you get the picture - negative nellies.  I focus my thoughts and my time with positive people and positive subjects.

4. Ok you said 3 but here's another one because it used to be a huge time sucker.  Facebook time  is limited. Period.

There's nothing like procrastinating until the very last day of the contest to submit my entry, so put Procrastination down as number 1 on my list.

#2 is being distracted, whether it's wasting time on something completely mind-numbing like a computer game, or checking my phone every time an email or text or Facebook post is generated. There's so much to do and only a limited number of hours in the day, so it's best to focus on the job at hand.

My #3 has served me well, and it's to make a to-do list every night before going to bed of the things I need to accomplish the next day. It keeps me focused on the tasks at hand so nothing gets left out or forgotten.

I'm working on eliminating these 3 things that are a drain on my time without the ROI.

1. Referring consultations that are beyond a range where it is cost effective for me to drive to. I do let them know that I will have to charge extra if they wish but otherwise, I refer it to someone else. For me, it's learning to say "no."

2.I'm not stressing over the need to read every post here on ActiveRain and comment on every post I do read.

3. And, since I'm a stager, I've edited the social media platforms that I'm on and am focusing on 3.  And even with this, I now set a timer and I no longer stare as the Facebook scroll keeps scrolling and scrolling.

1. I answwer calls as they come in so I don't waste time listening to voice mails and returning those calls.

2 I limit much of my marketing to the MLS where my  listings go to over 98% of the web sites out there.  Very little need to post elsewhere.

3. I spen very little time on coscial media except AR as AR keeps me on the first page of the internet in my area.

Here are my 3  'rry' I want to overcome ----

WORRY - the biggest killer should be killed, isn't it?

HURRY - no rush on anything. Plan ahead and yes, no hurry.

and

CARRY - no more carrying the baggage of past. It gets heavier with the passage of time.

It's been said that we should not create a vacuum when we eliminate something. Those things will try to come back and re-occupy the space.

One should fill in with something creative.

Here are the things that I'd like to add (or replace) with three 'RY'.

BERRY - considered as a healthy diet. A diet do impact the thought process.

MERRY - a mindset of being happy. Brings positive energy.

and

FIERY - being passionate about business, goals.

Ummm my 3 things

1. Working from home with a 1 year old. Will try to go the the office more to get more work done

2. Looking for different ways to generate leads offline. I will just allow God to continue guiding me for the leads to just fall in my lap.

3. Wasting so much time would be the last. I need to create a schedule  and spend at least 2-3 hours a day on educating myself about the business.

My three things are:

1. have chosen to UNSUBSCRIBE from shiny object promotions in my Inbox

2. Digging out old faithful wristwatch, as I have grown accustomed to using my smartphone, then always have a text or email that can wait when all I really wanted was to know the time.

3. Set a timer for Social Media, limit to 10-15 minutes of Facebook a day.

3 things that I  plan to  REMOVE from my day to day activities that waste time and will help me be more productive:

1.  Too many activities in different directions.  I will stick to my scheduled block timing for task.  Which will include more networking and getting out of my comfort zone.

2. Getting stuck in social media zone..  Wisely use my time on social media.  Use an app to post on different platforms at one time. Take advantage of scheduling post and blogs.

3.  Procrastination keeps me in the same spot.  My biggest struggle is waiting to do something til the last minuet.  I make time to complete an activity NOW I plan to get it done in a timely manner!

Three things that should be eliminated.

1. Days without a well organized plan of action.

2. Days spent doing things that should be delegated.

3. Days when I let other peoples priorities over take mine.

Missed this one...but here are my 3 things:

1) second guessing the work of others

2) beating the dead horse "leads"

3) reading too many un-real estate related posts/comments and articles.

Hi guys,

Your comments and posts were all SO GREAT! You guys really embraced "going for it", which is one of our core values here at BoomTown, and 'fessing up some things that you needed to eliminate from your day to day to free up more time in your 24 hours. We really enjoyed reading them and even picked up a few ideas for ourselves, which we hope you all did too. Cheers to a more productive second half of the year! Everyone will be awarded 1,000 ActiveRain points for participating.

Now for the good stuff... we randomly chose Susan Jacobsen's entry as the winner of the 5,000 ActiveRain points and an Apple Watch! Congrats, Susan!
