While attending the University of Tennessee, Dena was a Rotary exchange student at the University of Fortaleza in Ceara Brazil and earned her degree from the University of Tennessee in Anthropology. After becoming a Rotarian herself, Dena hosted an exchange student from Brazil, Lucas Cunha who lived in her home for the school year and attended West High School.
In addition to being a Real Estate Pro, Dena is also the mother of Anna Helms, and keeper of Chance (a 14 year old Australian Cattle Dog) and Mo (a cat that is lucky to be alive).
Whenever possible, Dena likes to travel and has many adventures exploring the world. Most recently, Dena walked in the footsteps of millions of pilgrims along the Way of St. James in Northern Spain where she hiked with a backpack for 500 miles across the Pyrenees and through Spain along the ancient Camino de Santiago. She can tell you about a magical two week drive through the English Countryside among any other adventures, but her month eating in Italy is her top favorite to talk about. When she isn't travelling she spends what free time she can gardening, enjoying the company of friends and cooking what some consider gourmet meals.
As a student of Anthropolgy, Dena studied Cultures and Religions from around the world and throughout history. She has been a volunteer on numerous occaissions at the Holston Presbytery Camp in Banner Elk North Carolina, and she looks forward to a time when mission work can be a bigger part of her life. Serving Others and fostering Spirituality remain the cores of her inspiration and are a part of her daily routine.
