
Bozeman, Montana is the kind of place where people still feel comfortable leaving their front doors unlocked and keys in the car (although, we don’t necessarily recommend it.)
With only 32.7 crimes per 1,000 people in 2014, the Bozeman Police Department attributes much of Bozeman’s safety to economic stability along with community group and resident efforts.
While Bozeman has certainly been shaken by isolated acts of violence in the past, the reality is that crimes in Bozeman are few and far between. In Bozeman you don’t have to worry about going into the “wrong area” of town, walking at night or going for a pre-dawn jog. While we always recommend taking steps to protect yourself when out alone, there are few threats against Bozeman resident’s safety.

The majority of the crimes committed in Bozeman during the year 2014 were larceny (theft of personal property) which accounted for nearly 85% of crimes in Bozeman for the year. Burglary (5.5%) and motor vehicle theft (4.4%) were the second and third most committed crimes in Bozeman. Aggravated assault accounted for 2.78% of crimes in Bozeman, rape accounted for 2.3% and robbery was just .2%. There were no homicides in Bozeman in 2014.
