This is the blog you're looking for. And I don't have a bad feeling about this.
Even though George Lucas and the Star Wars empire do not recognize this as an official holiday, May the Fourth is Star Wars day for many fans.
What you might not know is that it was first used in 1979 when Margaret Thatcher became the United Kingdom's Prime Minister. An advertisement placed in the London Evening News said "May the Fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations."
The first organized celebration of Star Wars day was in 2011 in Ontario and included trivia contests, costume contests, parodies and mashups. Disneyland and Walt Disney World have held Star Wars day festivities since 2013.
Easy ways to celebrate Star Wars Day:
- Watch (or re-watch) one (or all) of the movies. That's what astronauts on the ISS did last year to celebrate.
- Challenge yourself to drop a classic Star Wars quote into every conversation.
- Download the Force Trainer app which turns your smart phone into a light saber.
- Break out your Star Wars Legos and build a base. (That's what Jean did today with her students.)
- Put on your Storntrooper outfit or wear your hair Princess Leia style (cinnamon buns around the ears).
- 310 Bowery Bar in the East Village is hosting Star Wars trivia tonight at 8pm.
- Discovery Times Square is hosting a costume exhibition and is free today until 8 p to kids dressed as their favorite Star Wars character.
- Make a Star Wars Cake or Bar2D2s (recipes on StarWars.com).
- Donate your Star Wars toys to children in need (or your favorite teacher - Teacher appreciation week and Star Wars day rolled in to one act!)
Does this relate to business at all?
Of course it does. Today is the perfect day to break out your inner Jedi.
After all, Qui-Gon Jinn said "Your focus determines your reality."
Even Obi Wan Kenobi said "In my experience, there is no such thing as luck."
Han Solo reminds us "Don't get cocky" and Gold Five tells us to "Stay on target."
And we can't forget Yoda who reminds us to "Do. Or do not. There is no try."
