LANDON HOMES COLLECTS BOOKS FOR LOCAL CHILDREN
At a recent presentation luncheon hosted by Landon Homes in its Coquina Ridge Model Home, volumes of books were given to the Early Learning Coalition of North Florida. The goal of the Landon Homes March for Literacy project was to help the Early Learning Coalition of North Florida bring literacy to all children in the St. Augustine area.
Landon Homes representative Marjorie Taylor (right) and Joan Whitson, early literacy coordinator for the Early Learning Coalition of North Florida, take stock of the books collected by Landon Homes during its March to Literacy project.
Landon Homes and assisting local real estate firms collected new and gently used pre-school books for children ages 0-5. Helping with the project were Olde Carriage Realty, Watson Realty, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Florida Network Realty, Florida Homes Realty and Mortgage, RE/MAX 100 Realty, Lighthouse Realty, Davidson Realty and Coldwell Banker Premier Properties in World Golf Village.
According to the National Coalition for Literacy, roughly 93 million adults in the United States have basic and below-basic literacy skills.
“The Early Learning Coalition programs encourage children to enjoy reading and give them opportunities to spend lots of time with books,” said Marjorie Taylor of Landon Homes. “That’s the first step toward developing strong reading skills and a great start toward improving the statistics in the future.”
