Product Review: Mile IQ

I am not sure why it took me so long to start using this app, becasue I have tried many and have heard this Mile IQwas the best one. After using three others for a year each, Mile IQ was my next one to test.

Let me say that I was foolish not to start with this one! Right off the bat I saw how much better it was than any other mileage app I have tried. The main reason: It automatically logs ALL of your drives, and you just go in and fill in the blanks. Every other mileage app requires you to log the mileage yourself and who remembers them all? Now I know I may have missed a lot of miles!

So here is how it works. As long as you have your phone with you at all times, every time you get in your car and drive you get a log of that trip.

At the end of every day I simply go in and complete the log, maybe 2-3 minutes of my time.

So to complete it (and to get the tax credit) I need to change the address from the name of my city to the actual address. The beauty of Mile IQ is that if you put the address in for that location, it changes that location for every trip you make. So if you have a listing and make multiple trips to that address, you only have to change it once.

Next, for a claim for the IRS you must put the reason for the trip. Notes are crucial for claiming miles, so make notes on every entry.

Another thing I love about this app is joining trips. You can take a buyer out and drive all day, but who wants to fill in every single address you went to? Instead, join the trips for the day and make a note that this was a trip with a buyer to look at multiple properties. It is quick and easy!

Category: This is whatever you want it to be, you can add your own. You can seperate out buyers and sellers, Real Estate from other things you do. For example I am a virtual assistant for several agents in my office, I also do photography for them. And I also do a little real estate as well. So I have each of those seperated so I can track my mileage by the type of jobs I do. Then there is personal. You may want to track your personal miles for deductions, and that keeps it in a different category. The possibilities are endless.

If you have ever been audited by the IRS, and I have!, it is not a pretty picture. I wish I had been using this app then, it would have been much easier to pull out my Mile IQ app, than to pull out my ratty little mileage book I had in the car at the time.

Another thing I like is that you can log in on your phone or on your computer. I find it easier to use my computer, since my fingers are not good on the phone. It is just easier for me. But I know some who love the phone version better. Either way, whatever is easiest for you will make it easier to actually DO IT!

You can give Mile IQ a try for free! It will give you 40 free rides a month to test drive it. And if you would like to continue to use it, get a 20% discount right now through this link.

Hi Jerri, I know there's an App for everything and have been thinking about which one to use for mileage for a while. This answers my question. Thanks!

Hi Denise,

Yes I think it is often overwhelming with so many apps, and most likely why it took me so long to find the right one.

I think you would find it very easy to use and will most definitely love it! The easiest app I have ever used.

Keep up the posts. I enjoy watching the market in my old stomping ground!
