Stamp Out Hunger May 14th

Since 2010, White Glove Moving & Storage has been offering a helping hand and truck in Sebastian, Fl. for the annual Stamp Out Hunger event which takes place the 2nd Saturday of May. This easy to participate in event allows individuals throughout the nation a chance to donate unused non-perishable food items by simply filling up the bags provided by your postal carrier the week of May 10th and placing the bags by your mailbox on the 14th.

So how did this great nationwide event come to be? Back in 1991, a pilot drive was held in 10 cities in October of 1991, and it proved so successful that work began immediately on making it a coast-to-coast endeavor. Input from food banks and pantries suggested that late spring would be the best time since by then most food banks in the country start running out of donations received during the holiday periods.

"A revamped drive was organized for May 15, 1993—the second Saturday in May—with a goal of having at least one NALC branch in each of the 50 states participating. The result was astounding. More than 11 million pounds of food was collected—a one-day record in the United States—involving more than 220 union branches."

In 2010, the food drive surpassed the 1 billion pound park in total food collected over its history and the Sebastian branch alone helped raise over 30 tons of food! This year on Saturday, May 14th we hope to have even more food to sort, load and deliver. Every bit helps and your efforts are greatly appreciated.
