Incorporated in 1967 One of the smallest cities in the Desert area Indian Wells boasts the highest per 
capita income of any city in the state. City Of Indian Wells California. Part of the credit of the founding of the city can be traced back to TV legend Desi Arnaz who with several other partners built and opened the Desi Arnaz Western Hills Lodge in 1957. This eventually led to the development of what is now the Indian Wells Country club. The Hotel is now a newer structure called the The Indian Wells Resort Hotel.

President Eisenhower once lived here at the El Dorado and the Bob Hope Golf Tournament was played, for many years, at the Indian Wells Country Club. In 2000 the Indian Wells Tennis Garden opened and is reported to be the second largest tennis stadium in the world. Currently the major event played here every year is the Pacific Life Open which Has been renamed the PNB Paribas Open.
