Fire in the Fourth Festival 2016

Fire in the Fourth Festival 2016 (FIT4) returns on May 21, 2016 from 3-11pm to pay homage to the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917 that devastated the Old Fourth Ward ninety- nine years ago on May 21, 1917. Voted the Best “New Festival” by Atlanta Magazine in 2015.

The second year is going to be even hotter than their inaugural! Last year they raised $10,000 that funded four new City of Atlanta trash cans and an O4W mural at Glen Iris and North Avenue. Proceeds also funded the following public safety initiatives: a graffiti task force, and a collaboration with City of Atlanta District 2 Councilmember Kwanza Hall’s Year of Boulevard initiative for a community-wide clean car campaign to engage visitors, customers and residents to keep valuables out of sight.

Celebrating the resurgence of the O4W community through a one-day event for all ages featuring fire sculptures, fire theatre, history presentations, a variety of performances, live music, and delicious food; the Fire in the Fourth Festival 2016 is sure to spark your creativity and love of community.

New 2016 additions of a 25 foot Phoenix puppet, a guided bike tour of the fire’s path, fire games, O4W hot sauce tastings, themed seating areas and an exclusive VIP Fire Dome experience will raise this second year festival to four-alarm status.

The inaugural year was attended by over 5,000 people from in-town and as far as Athens, Georgia. FIT4 welcomed everyone from strollers to wheelchairs of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds arriving within the first hour of the event with the majority staying until the end.

Their goal for the Fire in the Fourth Festival 2016 is to attract more than 10,000 attendees, and significantly increase fundraising efforts to support public safety initiatives and bring positive awareness to the Old Fourth Ward business community.

Today the Old Fourth Ward is one of Atlanta’s fastest growing neighborhoods.  Businesses and residents alike are drawn to the community’s rich historical roots, now showcased in the context of new transportation systems and public spaces.  The Fire in the Fourth festival aims to celebrate the community’s ongoing revitalization by attracting residents of surrounding neighborhoods as well as visitors from the greater Atlanta area.

Fire in the Fourth is an all-ages FREE Community Event from 3-11 PM:  Auburn & Edgewood Avenues between Jackson and Blvd.
