The popular Annual Carlsbad Wild West Fest will take place on Saturday May 21st at Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park in the Rancho Carrillo area of Carlsbad off Palomar Airport Road.

Peacock at Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch ParkThe Carlsbad Wild West Fest is a free event, taking place from 11am until 2 pm,

This event offers plenty of fun and Western-themed activities for all ages, including a salsa contest, pony and mechanical bull riding, crafts, face painting and root beer tasting.

You can purchase Activity cards for $6 at the event to take part in the root beer tasting , photos with cowboys in authentic dress (who will demo some genuine cowboy stuff!), and rides on the mechanical bull or the quieter ponies, depending on what the kids are up for. Shop at the Trading Post or take part in the salsa tasting for $3.

Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch ParkThe Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park is a former working ranch that was owned and developed by actor, preservationist and philanthropist Leo Carrillo (he played Pancho in The Cisco Kid TV series in the 1950s), and is a designated California historic landmark.

Leo Carrillo Ranch Park is a fun, and free, place to visit anytime (kids will enjoy all the peacocks walking around the park), capturing the rich heritage of the west in Carlsbad.

Hi Jeff Dowler CRS ,  I remember watching the Cisco Kid TV series when I was a kid.  The Wild West Fest sounds like a lot of fun.

Sounds like a lot to do in only 3 hours Jeff.  Don't get beat up too badly on the bull.  Mark

Not sure I can make it - we have family plans in LA that day. We'll see. The park is pretty cool to see, knowing it is a historically preserved hacienda with multiple buildings in the middle of Carlsbad!!

How interesting, Jeff. I would never have "matched up" a Wild West Fest with Carlsbad... sounds more like something for Wyoming.

Hi Larry Johnston

I watched a few times as well. It's been fun to visit the hacienda, outbuildings and grounds of this movie star from the 1950s

Well it will be the Wild West Southern California style, with a touch of Carlsbad!! But it does conjure up other imagery, doesn't?

Well, sorry, but you will need to keep dreaming. I am not a salsa maker OR a salsa dancer.
