Self-help or personal disruption are often synonymous.
A Life of Personal Disruption
Some have asked, "What makes you tick?"
Most often I must take measure of the source of the question. Is this someone looking for a pill to solve a problem or does the questioner have an examined need?
I must issue a word of warning. My 'tick' comes from questioning many rules of the culture-scape. Questioning such rules will not be easy for most.
Most often I will begin with, "What if everything we think we know about how the world works, our ideas of love, education, spirituality, work, happiness and love — are based on Brules* that get passed from generation to generation and are long past their expiration date?" One must be willing to go on the journey to find the understanding that waits on the other side.
To think like some of the greatest non-conformist minds of our era is to question, challenge, alter and create new rules for YOUR life so you can define success on your terms.
There is a code, a blueprint of laws to break us free from the shackles of an ordinary life. The code makes a case that everything we know about the world is mostly decided not by rational choice – but instead by conditioning and habit.
Most people live their lives based on limiting rules and outdated beliefs about pretty much everything – love, work, money, parenting, sex, health and more—which they inherit and pass on from generation to generation.
To challenge the ordinary life existence, to challenge, to test, to prove to be true is incredibly exciting and disruptive. Doing so attains the "I know that I know, even if I can't explain it to you" confidence to define success on your terms.
Here’s a partial list of the things that could go “wrong” if a response is presented to someone not seeking a real answer but seek only some confirmation to do what they have already decided to do. Here is what can happen when the mind; a belief is disrupted:
- You might anger loved ones as you decide to question their expectations of you.
- You might decide to raise your kids with different beliefs.
- You might choose to question your religion or create your own customized religious system.
- You might become obsessed with being happy.
- You might decide to forgive someone who hurt you in the past.
- You might rip apart your current goal sheet and start anew.
- You might start a daily spiritual practice.
- You might fall out of love with someone and fall in love with yourself.
- You might decide to leave your career and start a business.
- You might decide to leave your business and start a career.
- You might find a mission that excites you a lot and scares you a little bit.
All of these are disruptions to those things we embrace as being true, because, for so many, they were instructed to believe them true. The unconventional mind challenges these boundaries, questions the reason for their existence, and journeys beyond their confinement.
Incredible minds, including Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Peter Diamandis, Ken Wilber, Arianna Huffington and Michael Beckwith.
As each of these lived life 'their way' they wrangled with the cultural disruption and found their way.
For you, the challenge is to find help to live the life you have by awakening the tiger within and showing the courage to interrupt, to disrupt, the thoughts and beliefs that have you bound?
"What makes me tick?"
I have found on the other side of the confusion and struggle, it is the light of hope and the opportunity to brighten the same ember in another. All the rest, that cause us so much trouble, the messiness of life, each one must reckon the value on their own terms and the greatness of the mind and spirit they nurture.
