ITS OKAY TO BE YOU...EVEN IN BUSINESS

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Metro Development Group

Have you ever looked at a successful person (perhaps on a day where you were struggling a little in your career) and thought that perhaps the key to their success is the way they dress, or speak, or act? You might have even thought that you want to be as successful so perhaps you should pattern some of your behaviors after that individual. Only to find that its uncomfortable to even think about and you like you just the way you are.

In business it is okay to be you.

When I was in the broker licensing course their was an older woman who had a very unusual sense of style. She wore very bright colors, youthful attire (or what I would think was) and just had a youthful presence. I often found myself wondering how her career was. I was curious to know if she was very successful in sales or if she did it as a hobby. Because I didn't know much about her I assumed that her eccenticism might be a turn off to clients looking for an agent to represent them.

Then it dawned on me. She has a circle of family and friends that more than likely pick her brain as my circle does. Those in her circle know that her favorite color is green and purple and would reccommend her to their coworker in a heartbeat. Because shedoes not where the conventional business attire does not mean that she is not ethical or knowledgeable in her field.

I left the class feeling comfortable with myself. As a young professional and owner of a small real estate firm, I often get caught up in thinking that I should wear this, have my hair this way, paint my nails this color. At the end of the day there are a number of people that trust my judgment, understand and embrace my uniqueness and will never second guess my expertise as they know that I will do all that I can for them my clients and my staff to ensure that they come out on top...in any situation.....EVEN BUSINES

Hello P.  Let's here it for a little originality.  Just cause we are all real estate agents, does not mean we are all clones.  Great post.  Now get a picture!

Being true to yourself is very important in this business.  The key is making sure that you are being the best you can be at all times.  You don't have to be like successful agent A or B, as we each measure success in different ways.  It takes all kinds to make the world run!  Welcome to Active Rain!
