Discover the Treme Neighborhood in New Orleans [VIDEO]

Treme, New Orleans LA

Treme showed up on the radar for new residents after HBO produced the series with the same name. While the show was as close to the real New Orleans as anything else that's ever been on television, it doesn't hold a candle to the real thing.

The Treme neighborhood is ever evolving and the dreaded G-word (gentrification) has become the reality for many long time residents. As prices in the French Quarter, the Marigny and the Bywater have continued to rise, people are turning to Treme. Investors have been renovating and flipping homes at much higher price points than we've seen in the past, while do-it-yourselfers have tackled bringing back those traditional shotguns and cottages to their former glory, changing the face of the neighborhood.

Take a walk with us through this historic New Orleans neighborhood. Listen to the sounds, see the sights and learn more about how America's oldest African-American community was established.

Diverse.

Energetic.

Changing.

This is Treme

Treme definitely has a lot of history and will no doubt, graciously find it's way to balance that with future development.

WOW, Lisa Heindel, that was a fascinating video!  I love it when historic areas are gentrefied - the diversity is so appealing to most here.

Debe Maxwell - this area is definitely undergoing gentrification, but not everyone is happy about it.

Oh, that's sad that they're not all on-board - the preservation of history and passion for it really is quite impressive in several areas here.  I have clients who won't even install new windows - they want period-specific windows so, they'll have the originals removed, lead-based paint abated and reinstalled.  There's a real passion for that as well as embracing diversity.  Perhaps time will heal in Treme.
