Does Your Cat Reduce Your Productivity?
Rescue Animals Increase Productivity
Of course, as a Real Estate Virtual Assistant, I can work from anywhere. I choose home. We have three rescue animals and I am certain they increase productivity. But am I as productive when my cat sits on my desk? So I am wondering Does Your Cat Reduce Your Productivity?
I believe that my Rescue Animals Increase Productivity and I tell you why below.
First let me tell you again, I have three cats (not on purpose, but I have 3 cats!) Any one of these rescue animals has access to my office and therefore my desk as well. They all have their own preference for where they would like to lay down. And they sure can make it happen.
My Sammi kitty prefers to sleep on top of the printer tray while it is angled for feeds. She is not overly large, but not a tiny kitty either so I do worry about her breaking off the feeder tray. She loves it when I print something two-sided. The printer shoots the first page out, but not all the way, then sucks it back in to print the other side. She gets all kinds of excited to reach and grab that paper the second time. I have had to re-print more than one copy of something because of her claw marks.
Maximus is his own manly man. He stretches all the way out on my desk like he owns it. I have a fairly large desk and if he stretches out, he can take up most of the front side of the desk. A little distracting when he stretches out and kicks the stuff off that is in his way, but luckily it not usually that important. If he’s not on the desk, he will be in the window soaking up the sun.
Now Maya is our ooops! She came to us because my husband could not say “NO” to the little girl next door who insisted we needed another kitty. Anyway, Maya just doesn’t care where she lays down. I put a kitty bed in an empty spot on my desk and she used to use that all the time. Then, as my hours in the office would get later and later, she would come and try to sit on my lap. That’s not happening! Then there is the “squeeze between the monitor and the pull-out keyboard. Not happening!
So the answer to this dilemma is to just shut down for the night! They know it’s supper time!
So in response to the question Does Your Cat Reduce Your Productivity, I have to say no unless it’s after 8 p.m.!! In fact, having them (not all at once mind you) in the office helps my day go faster and they give me someone other than my computer to talk to! They can interrupt as they get comfortable, but for the most part, they keep to themselves and take a little bath or nap.
These are all rescue animals from the Humane Animal Welfare Society and I truly believe they increase my productivity. I adore each one. They are funny most of the time and I can’t imagine life without them.
