Most of us can agree that this market shift has us looking hard at our own business models and making changes to stay ahead. I've been reading everything from The Dip by Seth Godin to any of John Maxwell's books to sharpen my skills and focus on 2008.
The other night I was watching something on television, and I saw the new Wal-Mart commercial where the actress says, "Beautiful" in several scenarios. That actress is Jennifer, an old friend of mine from Chicago. Back in 1998, or maybe 1999, she and her husband Monroe moved to LA to pursue their acting careers. She made a movie, has appeared in a series and numerous plays. He is the dad Whopper in the Burger King commercials. I've been following them via the internet for years. He had a brain tumor a few years back, a friend told me. But here they are, ten years later still doing what they love. And successfully. Getting national commercial spots is huge in the acting business. Becoming a movie star is gigantic - yet most actors work for years and never make a living at it.
I admire my old friends. I aspire to have the same drive - to go out and make a living at this profession which I love. I only hope I have as good a run as my friends have.
Here's to hoping that those of us who love what we do have a GREAT 2008!
