Visit the Decatur Arts Festival

The City of Decatur is excited about their annual arts festival. The Decatur Arts Festival 2016 is a month-long celebration of the arts.

Decatur Lantern Parade – Kick off the Decatur Arts Festival 2016 and celebrate the start of summer with the Decatur Arts Alliance and Decatur Education Foundation at the Decatur Lantern Parade. Gather at Color Wheel Studio at 508 E. Howard Ave. after 8 pm, then parade to the downtown square along with the Black Sheep Marching Ensemble. The Decatur Lantern Parade will be on Friday, May 13th at 9 pm in Downtown Decatur.

Artwalk – Decatur’s largest one-night art experience returns with fire twirler and stilt walker! Stroll around town to see exhibits at various shops and galleries and enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks. Beer will be on sale at East Court Square so drop by to visit beer sponsors Burnt Hickory Brewery, Creature Comforts and Decatur’s own Three Taverns Brewery. Artwalk will be held on Friday, May 27th from 5-11 pm all around Decatur.

Performing Arts Stage – The Decatur Arts Alliance will pack the stage with one man bands, dynamic duos, and high-energy drum groups. Enjoy hours of bluesy licks, funky beats, classic pop, jazz, rock, smooth country, and West African rhythms that get your feet tapping. You’ll be amazed at the high energy, full sound, and engaging live stage performances.Check it out for yourself. Bring the kids! You won’t be disappointed. You can enjoy the Performing Arts Stage on Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, May 29th at the Community Bandstand on the Decatur Square. Performances begin at 11:20am on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

Artists Market – The Artists Market features more than 150 artists selected through a competitive jury process. The annual market is known for its high quality of artwork and attracts artists from all over the Southeast and beyond. More than a dozen media categories are represented by new artists and festival favorites.The works of several accomplished area artist guilds are featured as well. Don’t miss the collections from Georgia Goldsmith’s Guild, Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, and Atlanta Glass Guild. The Artists Market will be on Saturday, May 28th from 10 am-6 pm and Sunday, May 29th from 11 am-5 pm in Downtown Decatur.

Kids Arts Festival – The Kids Arts Festival kicks off with a parade on Saturday. Lineup begins at 9:30 am at the corner of Commerce Drive and Church Street. Marching begins at 9:50 am. Dress up your kids and decorate your strollers, bikes, and trikes. Join the parade and show your artistic spirit. The coolest decorated ride wins a prize!
After the parade, enjoy arts and crafts, music, balloons, juggling, clowns, inflatables, and new this year, a gaming truck for kids of all ages. Kids Arts Festival is on Saturday, May 28th 9:30 am-2 pm at Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore Street.
