Chicago is know for it's museums but the Museum of Science and Industry is the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere.
It is the only remaining building from the World's Columbian Exposition 1893 and represents truly classic architecture and was constructed from material called "staff" which is a combination of plaster, cement, and jute fibers.
The Museum is home to many exhibits but the ones that I remember from my childhood are the coal mine, German Submarine, and train set.
