So I kept getting this phone call, "Kristen, blah blah blah, __ __ __ , is this normal?"
I don't mean "blah blah blah" to sound rude, I mean to be vague about the topic.
"Kristen, he does business this way, how do you do it? Or "Kristen, he just said this to me, is that ok?!" "What is NORMAL?" "What is common?" "Why do I feel like this ain't right?!"
Once you get that question enough times and the agent is in agreement with how you would handle it vs. how their team lead or their broker would handle it, well, easy. They will change brokerages. It's just that simple.
Not everyone is for everyone. I started at Coldwell Banker and it was perfect for me! The Fast Start training. The hand-holding by the in-office trainers. The consistency it offered. The management. The fellow spirited agents. The professionalism. The brand. It all worked perfectly when I was a young gun. Seriously was never dissatisfied.
But I simply longed for more.
So I went independent. I had no idea "going independent" meant poeple would want to work with you. I naively assumed everyone else wanted and needed the big box! I didn't intend for that to happen -- for people to ask me to hold their license. That's how it works in Texas, as a broker, I can sponsor other sales agents. So...
It was written into my business plan in big, bold letters:
I N D E P E N D E N T B R O K E R
I thought that meant, you know, I would be working by myself!
But birds of a feather flock together. People who appreciate your behavior will come around. And so today I have a new agent. She's amazing. She always has been -- I have known her in a professional capacity now for about 8 years. I know her. Well.
And that makes 14 agents in my small firm. I am so happy and proud of each of them, as I never would have guessed to have a team of superior, educated, well-trained, highly ethical, trustworthy, talented agents.
But I do.
And another thing... I am so grateful my business plan is in the shredder.
Thank you for sharing this real estate journey with me!
