Snow, Rhubarb and the Catskill Mountains
We were in the Catskills in Roxbury NY this past weekend visiting family for a wedding, and despite being the middle of May the weather was pretty winter-like, with temps one day in the high 30s and heavy snow flurries both Saturday and Sunday.
From this Southern California guy there were plenty of words! The views were pretty nice, however.

Well I wasn't pleased, but knowing that it was not going to last long, and we were there to visit with family, made it all worthwhile. But I sure didn't epect that cold and snow!

Thanks for stopping by. This was a classic large farmhouse with great views to the south from inside but especially from the front porch. Fun pace to visit, despite the cold and snow...and no Internet!!

I was certainly surprised, but my sister-in-law who lives there says this is common. We flew over a bunch of mountains on the way back west with lots of snow!

Jeff, I don't believe that many parts of the Catskills have changed much since we used to go there in the 1950's. I have two pictures hanging over my fireplace painted by my uncle of scenes in the Catskills and I suspect an artist would find places just like it today to paint.
Hi Jeff, I'll bet you were freezing. You So Cal folks are quite fortunate to have such mild weather most of the time. But as you mention, there are certainly trade offs. :)

That was my impression. I did not notice much new building in the areas I was at, although I did note a few pretty specactular homes on the muntains that were new and clearly had fantastic views. Now if the area could just do a better job on cell service!! LOL

It WAS cold and we were not really prepared in terms of clothing. It certainly gets that cold where we are in SoCal but only in the winter at night. We are indeed lucky with the weather we have most of the time. Having been away from New England for 11 years I am spoiled with good weather! But it was all worth it to spend time with family and all the nieces and nephews!
