Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy.
Francis was born in Philadelphia back in 1737 to Thomas and Mary. Have you noticed there are a bunch of Mary’s in my blogs? Anyway on with the history lesson he was a member of the first class at the College of Philadelphia (now the University of Pennsylvania). He graduated in 1757 and was the secretary to the Provincial Council of Pennsylvania Indian Commission. In 1763 he was appointed customs collector for Salem, New Jersey.
In 1789 then President George Washington nominated Francis tot eh position of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Only after a few years in the position he died from a sudden apoplectic seizure. He was 53. However now comes the all-important question. Can you tell me what he is most noted for? Well contrary to what you’ve heard he designed the first official American Flag. He was also one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Thus ends the history lesson for today.
