I once heard a national horse dung salesman (training guru) say that we are idiots for going to closings. Claimed he went to his first closing and deemed it a waste of time. He sends people to get the check.
I view it as an opportunity to cement the relationship for down the road. You can also hold the client's hand if there is one of the typical delays. You can demonstrate that it's just as important that they get their money is it is for you to get yours.
I also know that we can actually list and sell a home these days without leaving the office or meeting the clients. Caution: clients can play that game too!
