Now stop that. If your mind immediately went to a tall bar stool, with bouncy babes in black shorts, you got it wrong. I'm a Hooter, but not that kind. Think pink, instead.
As a 10 year breast cancer survivor, I have raise $4,000 to $7000 for the past 3 years for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk, walking 20 miles a day, 3 days in a row. Yeah.. gruelling to say the least. Last year I wanted to do more to bring about an end to death from breast cancer. So I set a goal to raise a whopping $100,000. Nuts??? Maybe. But I started recruiting my friends, fellow realtors, clients, neighbors to join Hands Up For Hooters. In the end I had a team of 69! Did we raise $100,000? No. We raised $148,000!!! In the process my 69 walkers - I call them Hooters - walked about 600 miles in training, lost weight, got stronger, lowered their medications, strengthened their bodies, and just plain got healthy. After walking together every Sat and Sun morning for 6 months, most of them were able to walk the 20 miles a day, too.
And we had fun. LOTS of fun. Who wouldn't have fun wearing our training shirts with our little Hootie Owl on it. This is us at a fundraiser - Hops For Hooters at the Fair Oaks Brew Pub.
Wanna do something for breast cancer? Here's my challenge for you. You can join our team. Even if you live far away, we can meet you in San Diego Nov 18, 19 and 20. Then you'll be a Hooter! Or you can donate to my walk. I'm going to raise $3,000 personally. Why Komen? Susan G. Komen is the largest contributor to breast cancer research and support activities in the entire world, next to the US government. They've given $3.2 Billion dollars since 1982. Currently 1 out of 8 women in the US will get breast cancer in their lifetime. And each year 2200 men get the diagnosis. That's gotta stop.
So I'll ask you to help... and Put Your Hands Up For Hooters!
