The Big Canoe Chapel's Women's Guild Legacy of Caring Marketplace fund raiser took place this weekend. Unfortunately due to bad weather (rain) the car show could not take place. But the events that did take place attracted many attendees and there was fun for all. This event took place on Friday and Saturday and Saturday's weather was much better by about noon time.
What's it all About?
The Legacy of Caring Event included a book sale, indoor rummage sale, 32 juried crafters, the Bear Paw Bakery, lunch and music provided by Big Canoe Chapel musicians. The music was piped outside of the chapel onto the chapel grounds so that people could hear it as they were shopping or having a bite to eat. The music was a variety of types but a favorite was blue grass.
One of the nice things about this annual event is that it provides residents of Big Canoe a chance to see each other and catch up with what is going on in each others lives. Wandering through the more than 30 craft's booths, one could hear conversations about activity group get togethers, the latest book that one of the Big Canoe book clubs is reading, or the health of people's family members. It is a genuine community event that allows residents to have an enjoyable day amidst friends all for a good cause. The money raised from this fund raiser goes to support non-profit agencies and missionaries.
The Book Sale
The book sale branched out into various rooms inside the chapel and includes cds and dvds. Topics included everything from religion to romance to cookbooks, and everything in between. There were also music cds available and DVDs.
The Collector's Corner
The Collector's Corner area included fine china, crystal, paintings and knick knacks. There is also a room for decorative items, one for linens as well as women's accessories which included belts, hats, purses and pins. One could easily spend a few hours at this event between all of that, plus the craft booths.
Craft Booths
There were approximately 32 craft booths which I must say were all filled with beautiful high quality crafts. Some of the favorites were jewelry, photography, hand sewn items and pottery. One of the most popular booths was one offering home made tomato bisque soup and various jellies. The man at the booth was asking anyone who went by if they wanted to try some soup. He had a large container full of warm soup and one woman commented that once people taste that soup, it's all over for them so the samples are a good idea. The man in the booth said, "My motto is I give them a taste, and they pull out their wallet!" There was a lot of truth in that as he was almost sold out of jars of soup by 1:00 pm each day.
An Event to Look Forward to
The Big Canoe Chapel Women's Guild Legacy of Caring event is an annual event and one that many Big Canoe residents try not to miss. I hope you can see why when you look at the pictures I have included. I am already looking forward to next year's event!
