Why? That's probably the number one word I've used throughout my entire adult life. Why, why? Because information and illumination are two of the most valuable pieces of life's puzzle that all people need. In business, "why" should be the key to open the gate to new and deeper pathways to broader success and innovation.
During the 90's and early 2000's I taught finance and investment seminars. In those seminars, I was teaching the attendees how to use investing for wealth-building. Invariably, one attendee (or more) would say, "Why would I think I could ever be financially independent? Nobody in my family is wealthy or financially independent."
They used the key to lock the gate. My response was pretty much the same every time. "Why not? What does what your family experience have to do with your success?" Far too many people have generational and situational blinders over their eyes. They can't see past the success of their family members. The truth is, for many families, success is an isolated event. One individual out of a dozen family members may achieve his goals that are outside of the family norms. Why can't that individual be you? Maybe you can show the other family members how to find that magical key to a new family norm.
So, rather than say, "Why me," why don't you say, "Why not me?" When you remove the generational and situational blinders, you can see possibilities. Just because someone else hasn't accomplished what you desire doesn't mean what you desire is not attainable. It is. That's the point where you need to meet "Why's" best friends, "How and Do."
