Old Telephone

Old telephone

I spied this old telephone hanging on the wall at the Roxbury Mountain Maple facility in Roxbury NY a few weeks ago and had to grab a photo. I'm not sure how old it really is (there was no sign), but I'm guessing it might be from the early 1900s. Sure is a contrast to the phones we have today

Jeff, this telephone is so cool!    I saw one similar in an older upscaled home, and should have taken a photo.

We've definitely come a lon way. I rememebr party lines when I was young. And you only had to dial 4 digits. Dialing? What's that, Dad?

Funny you should say that! We stayed at a B and B a few years ago that had an old phone that worked and it appeared to be an original

Ah, yes, the wall phones. And then the Princess models. I remember when it was such a big deal to go from a rotary phone to a push button!!

Hi Jeff Dowler CRS ,  I remember wanting to buy one for my wall at home back in the 1970s, but I never did.  I love to see nostalgic places and things and imagine living during that era.

It would certainly be fun to have one on the wall! I imagine finding a real one rather than a reproduction would be a challenge. This one was clearly original

Hi Jeff, I love to see those old, old phones!  Most folks don't know that it was an Undertaker named Strowger that invented the first successful automatic telephone "switch," subsequently putting these hand-crank-telephones and a lot of Operators out of work!  Happy New Year!  John and Kat

That's an old one alright!  When I was a kid, we had an old restaurant in town that had one of those!  I'm remembering that there was a little crank on the right side of it to make it go!

Alexander- Slocum  A belated Happy New Year to you, John and Kat. I am catching up on old comments I missed. I wasn't aware of that!

Indeed it is Myrl Jeffcoat  - I remember seeing an old crank phone before too, just not sure where. Amzing where we have gotten to today!
