Some of my better selling items on Amazon...and I can use your help

As many of you know, I became an Amazon Associate at the beginning of the year.  It's a way to generate some passive income from my blog.

When people click through my links on recommended products, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST, I receive a small commission. Generally, the "cookie" is only good for 24 hrs...so if someone buys that item (or any other item) within 24 hrs, I get that commission.  (But, if they buy later, I don't get anything.)

Generally, the commission rates start at 4% and as you sell more items in the month you commission rates increase.  Right now, for this month, I'm at a 6.5% rate.  Last month, I hit a new high of 7%.  You need to have 111 items shipped within the calendar month to get to 7%.  So far this month, 87 items have shipped and 7 more were purchased this morning, so I should be at 94 items.  So, I'm hoping 17 more items are purchased by tomorrow night (as it may take 24 hrs to ship).  I would have been there is an order of 16 cans of polyurethan actually shipped, but for some reason they didn't (and I have no idea why).

Last month, I got lucky as one person ordered 41 items all at once - some inexpensive light switches.

Hoping someone comes through either today or tomorrow.  We shall see.

I thought I'd share the top items that my customers are selecting:

Bona Hardwood Cleaner

Felt Pads

Doggie Socks

Mats that go underneath rolling office chairs

And, here are some of the "bigger" ticket items that some of my customers have bought (these are not from my recommendations, but they just happen to buy them that day on Amazon:

  • Supervision of Police Personnel

  • Tivo Remote

  • All in one printer

On my site, things look better and everything is context/picts are bigger.  And, there is a buy on Amazon button, but I haven't yet been able to get that button on here yet.  Also, I have a plugin on my site (costs $47, but I got for $29 via an affiliate link) which extends the "cookie" for 90 days IF they add the item to their cart.

Oh, and I'll keep you posted when the month ends what my commission is for the month.  So far, it's around $117.

Thanks for posting these ideas.  My husband and I just realized that the hardwood protectors we have on a barstool are scratching the wood.  I ordered some felt protectors.

Interesting - I didn't know your commission rate depended upon the number of items shipped. I also didn't know you got a commission on items other than the ones you featured.

So - you added to my education today.

Now I'll see if I can find that little list I've started. I generally "save up" purchases until I get to the free shipping threshold.

Carla Muss-Jacobs, Principal Broker/Owner I did most of the work Dec/Jan.  It's the start of some other work I want to do.   The good news it's passive now...so continues to generate over $100/month ongoing...and hoping to get it a bit higher.  Soon, on my next website, hoping to get an extra $500/month.  I only work on this stuff AFTER I finish all my regular work...so just a bit at the end of some of my days.

Marte Cliff Yes, I hear you on the free shipping.  I forget if that threshold is $35 or $49 or it may vary by item.  I also have learned stuff here...now they offer Amazon Prime for people that buy a lot.  I forget if it costs $97 a year (or something similar), but then you get free shipping wo/ a minimum and it's 2 day shipping.  It's not for me, but it is for people that buy a lot on there, esp for convenience.  I've since learned that a bunch of my customers have it and love it.

I also didn't realize that Amazon has groceries and stuff like that (so you can use it like Peapod (but non perishable items obviously).

I also learned that they have these "button" that allow you to replenish items (like detergent and stuff like that) just by pushing the button.

they are very smart.

It also made me realize that I've been a bit under a rock.

Debbie Gartner I refused to go to Amazon for years after they refused to quit selling dog fighting videos.

Now I shop there because I save money and my absence doesn't harm them in the least. (It's that old "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" thing.)

My son and his family in Seattle have Prime and love it - but they also download a lot of movies, and that just wouldn't work for me with satellite Internet. I'd use up my entire month's allotment of data in a couple of days.

Thx Kathy. I'm in the home stretch for this month now.  I think I need 16 items between now and midnight.  So not sure that I'll make it.

Does your deadline end on the 31st? If so, I may be able to get an order in.

My ex-BIL was an Amazon affiliate through his website some years ago and I used to order there all the time.

He told me on trick...he said if I browsed around before ordering, he did not get credit and if I did browse, to wait 24 hours then go back to his site and place the order. He would then get credit for it. Has that changed or can I browse as usual and checkout through your link?

Good morning Debbie. You make it so easy for folks to use Amazon by clicking through your link. It's easy as you say and costs no additional money.

Diana Zaccaro Yes, he's exactly right.  Yes, current deadline is May 31st.  But, not to worry if you order in June (or later) as those will add to the totals in that month.

I'm just bummed out that I would have been over the 7% threshold if that person's order of 16 items went through.  Right now, it looks like I need to get 15 more items shipped by tomorrow.

We'll see.  Either way, the totals seem to go up each day.  Hopefully soon, I'll consistently be at a 7% level.

Debbie Gartner I have sold more through Amazon than purchased when I sold off my Law Book Library, but as Conrad Allen stated; if I did purchase something again through A, I would use you.
