First Impressions can be powerful and lasting....

First impressions can be powerful and lasting, so make sure you project the Best First Impression with your photos. I will share this story with you and you tell me what you think.

The other day, as I was driving to one of my appointments to show some view homes in the Hollywood Hills, I was next to this Van and it made me pause. Needless to say I am a very visual person and when I see a picture or a view it generally conjures up images and scenarios in my mind.

Well this Van and I kept passing each other for at least three or four lights. Finally, I had to take a picture because all I could think of is it me or is it them? Being a Pet Friendly Realtor who happens to have a dog and numerous cats I focused on the picture. Needless to say, I look at our pets and I see when they are sad, when they are happy as well as when they are super excited. Once in a while I see the sad look on our dog’s face when I cannot take him with me for an appointment. Hence since most of our pets communicate with their expressions I am extra tuned in to their “moods”.

Now with that said, if I had a business that involved pets I would make sure that the image I projected on my Van would have happy, excited or at least smiling dogs. I get it, when you have many, not all will be happy, excited or smiling at the same time.

Now look at this picture and tell me where I am going wrong? There is not one dog who seems to be happy in that picture. Now if it was me, I would not put that photo on my Van. If my goal was to have them on my Van, then I would have professional photographers take as many photos as it was necessary to have happy smiling dogs on my Van. Just like I do my professional photos for my home listings, they project the home in the best light. I always want to project the best images of the home I am marketing.

Let me know your thoughts.

Good point Endre, though the photographer may not know what a dog smile looks like the business owners certainly should have.

Bob Crane  hope you are having a relaxing weekend, and indeed I agree with you the business owners should have known better... as I kept being next to the van all sorts of negative images were running through my head looking at the faces of the dogs....Endre

Hi Endre - You're right, but the dogs and the photographer were probably exhausted from the effort of just getting everyne to sit still in the same place. It took us over an hour to get our Christmas photo done a couple of years ago, and that was just three dogs. It was probably the doggie Christmas sweaters that caused the problem.

Endre, I agree with your comment about not using this picture. Pets do show emotion as you said. Show happy dogs who are wanting to be loved or just having fun..

Those dogs do not look happy at all! Makes you wonder what they were thinking when they decided on that photo for their marketing!
