Memorial Day 2016
Originally known as Decoration Day, it was a day that organized women’s groups 
left flowers on the graves of our soldiers who valiantly served Our Country.
In 1968 this day was changed to Memorial Day and a day we honor and remember our fallen American soldiers.
Take a few minutes to reach out to our service men and women to thank them for their sacrifices that are real and permanent.

I actually remember that this day was originally called "decoration day" - at least that is what my parents called it. Either way, it is a wonderful tradition.

I guess some of the customs changed when people finally figured that it wasn't only the male gender of our species who had died giving lives for the country, it was also women.

Good morning Joan. I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day. Our neighborhood sure was "decorated" with American flags along the streets and on so many houses. It was great to see everyone participating in such a commemorative and important day.
Joan, Excellent post and I completely agree with reaching out to all service men and women who are safe guarding this great nation.
We spent a portion of the day battling traffic coming back from Cape Cod, MA. Up there we did get to see a town celebration for Memorial Day, however
