Buying a Home in Bozeman, Montana? What's on your wish list?

Being in the real estate world we hear a lot of different things that people want in a home.  Some are basic...we need three bedrooms, two bathrooms.  Some are a little out there and, some are downright crazy...I want a mountain view home with acreage but still be able to walk downtown.  Through everything we hear, a few things come up more often than others.  Here is what's on most peoples wish list when looking for a new home in Bozeman.

1. A LARGE LOT

Most people move to Montana to get a little space.  Some breathing room and an outdoor area to play in or store your toys.  In town Bozeman some subdivisions give you very little as far as outdoor space goes.  Homes are squeezed in together to make the most of the land available.  However, there are some neighborhoods where you can get more outdoor space.  In town Baxter Meadows West has huge lots…some over 18,000 sq.ft.  Not to be confused with Baxter Meadows which is right next door with smaller lots.  South of town West MeadowSundance Springs and Meadow Creek are all subdivision with lots bigger than many you can find in Bozeman.  Ellis View Estates, bordering Sundance Springs is a newer neighborhood with large lots that have some pretty amazing views.  Imagine waking up to this every day...

Out of town, the neighborhoods are  spread out and lot sizes are much bigger.  Spirit Hills and Summer Ridge north of town sit near the foothills of the Bridgers giving you that great Montana living experience with wide open spaces and mountains in your backyard. Painted HillsHyalite Heights and the Legends at Bridger Creek are a few more where you can full fill your desire to have just a little more space where you call home.

2. RUSTIC STYLE HOMES

This is Montana so of course rustic design is going to be on the top of a lot of wish lists!  But rustic these days does not mean old log cabins. Contemporary rustic style is more the thing to offer a fresh take on the style giving light and warmth rather than the coolness that may come from a traditional rustic design.

A few musts if you are going with rustic are wide wood plank floors and a fireplace.  These elements give an instant rustic vibe as soon as you walk in.  The fireplace is a must and bonus if the surrounding of it is made out of nature elements…rock, stone or wood being the favorite around here.  Love these two...

White walls work well when you are going rustic and they are a nice contrast to any dark wood that is often found with this style.  Especially exposed wood beams…these can overpower a home so light colored walls are great!

Around here reclaimed barn wood is all the rage when it comes to rustic homes.  You can often find them used as a sliding door in many of the newer homes or as an accent piece.  Reclaimed wood of any kind that has been roughed up over the years gives a wonderful rustic look to a space.

3. MODERN ARCHITECTURE

On the other end of the spectrum we have seen a recent trend of modern and contemporary style homes.  Generally, when talking about a modern design home you think of clean and simple lines, large windows, open space and high ceilings.

Uncomplicated is another term associated with modern design.  Nothing too detailed, just strategic use of materials to add visual interest.  Maybe a unique light fixture or unexpected burst of color.  Occasionally industrial details will pop up and almost always some high tech finishes like LG Hi-Marc light countertops, high efficiency radiant floor heat or maybe a 3-sided fireplace.  Bold roof lines, creative floor plans and revamped outdoor space just to name a few more.  Modern homes are such fun!
