For San Antonio's Hemisphere 1968 an impressive structure called the Tower of the America's was built in downtown San Antonio basically in the middle of the area of our 1st world's fair. Hemisphere was truly a
coming of age for the Alamo City. Visitors flocked from all over the world to the Fair. The Tower was
designed by archect O'Neil Ford (a well known local architect) and rises approximately 750 ft. into the air above the Alamo City enhansing its downtown skyline. Until 1996 the Tower was the tallest observation
building in the United States. The Tower was located strategically in almost the center of the orignial fair area. The Tower has two decks - the observation deck which is called the Flags Over Texas Observation Deck and the 2nd deck which operates as a upscale revolving restaurant ( currently Chart House).
The view from either on a clear day is spectacular. The Tower has become a city landmark since its inception and is used frequently by the city for July 4th and New Year firework displays.
And in addtion to the Alamo and the San Antonio Riverwalk is one of San Antonio's most recognizable
landmarks.
