Things to do Around Here

You know all too often after work we go home, have dinner and sit in front of the TV. Sometimes we don't even talk to each other as we watch TV. What happened to asking the person you live with, "How was your day?" and actually listening to them.

Recently my husband had a change in schedule. He use to work 2pm to 2am. Now he works from 7:30am until 5:30pm. He then goes to the gym and gets home at 7pm. So we eat when he gets in. Then like so many others, we sit down and watch TV. He looks over at me after a week of this and says, "Is this what people do in the evenings."

You know hearing him say this struck something in me. It is what people do, but why? There are so many things to do around Greenville, WHY DON'T WE GET OFF THE COUCH AND GET BUSY? My husband I decided that even if it is a walk around the neighborhood, we are not going to sit around and do nothing in the evenings.

So here are a few things I found to do around town...even better still some are free!

•-          An Art Show at the Greenville County Museum featuring David Driskell Already in progress until June 15th.

•-          Downtown Alive FREE, FREE, FREE at the Hyatt Regency Greenville Plaza. This one is lots of fun and what more could you ask for Free music!

•-          Main Street Jazz FREE, FREE, FREE at the Hyatt Regency Greenville Plaza

•-          Starry Nights at the Roper Mountain Science Center. $4 for adults and $3 for children. You get to look through a 23-inch telescope! On Friday nights May dates are: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th.

•-          Saturday Market Live This one is really neat. You get to see what local producers have to offer and get really fresh items. It is a lot of fun just to go walk downtown and check this one out!

•-          Warehouse Theatre Improv from the Distracted Globe May 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th. It is only $5 a person. Everyone needs a laugh occasionally!

•-          The Resurrection Symphony May 3rd and 4th.

•-          The Greek Festival May 15th through 18th at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

•-          Jeff Dunham at the Bi-Lo Center. Ok so this one cost money, but this guy is not only amazing (because I think anyone who can talk without moving their lips is) but funny too!

•-          Freedom Weekend Aloft is coming to Heritage Park May 24th, 25th and 26. There is lots of fun stuff to do here!

•-          Shakespeare Festival. I didn't even know we had one, but we do and I can't wait to go! This is from May to September check out the shows and dates!

•-          Scottish Games are coming to town June 6th and 7th. Check them out! Plus who knows you might learn a little something about another culture.

Those are just a few. I know there are many more out there. I will put more up from time to time, so feel free to check back to see what is going on.

What else is out there that I don't know about? Let us know by adding a comment.
