1st choose the issues that are most important to you and stick with them.

2nd try to find issues you and the other party can and do agree on - common ground.

3rd be willing to change/adjust/adapt/give in on your less important issues to get something

 you feel is more important.

4th ask what are the important issues to the other side - this helps you understand their goals

 and knowledge is power.

5th  Keep the negotiation friendly and never unpleasant. Circumstances change and you/and or

the other party might want to again open the negotation at another time.

6fh  always be prepared to walk away.

 

Remember a successful negotiation means all the parties win something and lose something.
