It's been raining here. It's been raining for a long time. It's been raining a REALLY long time. In the Houston/Sugar Land/Richmond Rosenberg area, we had the tax day flood (April 18th). And since, it seems like every day there has been rain. Sometimes a little rain and a lot of thunder. Sometimes a LOT of rain. Last week the Brazos river crested 7 feet higher than it's all time record thanks to 15+ inches of rain upstream. Places that had not flooded in 50 years, well, flooded. Our subdivision was safe, thanks to a nicely maintained levee system ( I will never complain about Municipal Utility taxes ever again), but the water lapped at the areas around us. There was one way in, and one way out of our neighborhood. The river actually rose and flooded a state highway, which was also the stage of an impromtu cattle drive. Our county sheriff's department actually stopped traffic as 1000 head of cattle were herded to the other side of the highway. We were fortunate. There was no damage to our home, or our neighbors homes. We had food, water and (thanks God) electricity. Some of our surrounding neighbors were not so fortunate.
There is nothing like a natural disaster to make a person lose focus on their business. Outside forces demanded attention. A flooded storage facility that held 10 years of real estate records, now floating with the crawfish and snakes (yes, snakes) had to be cleaned out today. Previous clients were evacuated from their homes. I talked to two of them today who are back in with no damage.
There have been a lot of distractions. But I am ready for the coming week. It needs to be back to business as usual. We survived and we will sop up the water, repair the damage and live to fight another day. But, please, whoever is praying for rain can stop now.
