Yes, when many hear the term "Social Media" they cringe! The mere thought of having to place your thoughts in some sort of relevant manor on some site somewhere others can read it and hopefully take it in the spirit it was intended can be, at the very least, daunting.
A great piece of advice I received many years ago was to look at Social Media much like a cocktail / happy hour party. Personally I love parties and totally enjoy congregating with other humans. (If you are the "get out and network" type, you and I will quite possibly run into one another one of these days!)
Face to face interaction in the real world is really similar to what should happen in the world of "cyberspace". The difference in the real world, is you have the advantage (or disadvantage depending on how much fun you are having!) of using your God given tools like facial expression, speech inflections and body language.
These tools are not available in the Social Media Realm, however, the possibility of becoming an influence is open for everyone.
One very positive way to be more comfortable working within the world of Social Media is to imagine the exact facial expressions of the person or people you are attempting to serve. Get into the role of the party attendee and talk your talk. Imagine the expressions on their face when you utter such incredible words of wisdom and intelligence that they become spellbound that mere mortals can utter such magical communications!
The wonderful thing about social media is, you may connect with many people with the click of a few buttons, share your powerful personality without the possibility of a hangover or a huge bar tab!!
As for content. Encourage your sphere to comment on whatever you post and listen very intently to their responses. If you get absolutely no response, you may need to go out and spend a bit more time out among the humans....!
Most of all, have fun, it's contagious......
