Leads Leads Leads - Am I just a lead? A rant.

Everywhere I turn these days I see a new advertisement for a Realtor.  As soon as I fire up my Facebook with coffee in hand I am inundated with pictures and advertisements from Realtors.  I get everything from if I want the value of my house... click here.  If I want to buy a house... click here.  It's almost impossible to scroll in peace.  They are everywhere.

The thing is this.  I am a Realtor myself. I have a strong grasp of Internet lead generation.   So I get what people are doing.  Still yet even myself being in the business and having knowledge doesn't save me from the inundation of lead sites.  It gets worse.

Facebook has algorithmically realized I'm a Realtor.  So my feeds aren't just lead generation sites from Realtors but also services designed to be sold to Realtors!  I get the double whammy!  It's so bad that I have to ask myself "Am I Just a Lead"?

The truth is were all someones lead in one form or another.  It may range from plumbing and electrical to real estate, but we all use the services of others in one way or another.  Facebook has successfully shoved that very idea down my throat each and every morning in the form of ads.

I'm not really blaming Facebook per say.  Yet I guess in a way I kind of am.  Yeah I know I sound confused on the idea but when social networks get involved in the sales process the blame spreads quickly.  Is it really Facebooks fault?  Heck they didn't choose for me to be a Realtor.  Had I been a gardener I wouldn't see such ads.

Actually if I weren't a Realtor I would face the same issues.  Let's say I was a landscaper instead.  I would soon being to see ads focused on landscaping equipment showing up in my feed.  There's no escaping it.  In fact I would be willing to bet somewhere there's a pissed off landscaper with the same qualm as I have.

So what are we supposed to do?  It's not exactly a realistic solution to drop Facebook (at least it's not for me).  I think the solution is quite simple.  I need to grow thicker skin.

Get over it!  The fact is were all someones lead in one form or another.   We wear clothing made by others, drive cars made by others and live in houses built by other people then ourselves.  The concept of being someones client isn't new.  So yes in effect I have to get over it.  I am a lead after all.

I guess I should just be lucky to see an occasional cat meme and just deal with the Facebook ads.  I think since I became an advertiser myself (yes I admit I am actively apart of the problem) I get double the ads.  I really think that if someone places ads on Facebook their feed becomes fair game for ads from others in a way that's different from your average user.  I just refuse to believe that others have it as bad as I do (poor me syndrome often associated with Realtors).

Yep, my own questions now answered.   What are your thoughts on the subject?  Enjoying your Facebook feed lately?

I can sympathize!   I have learned, somewhat, to ignore them! However, I am always a little taken aback when variations of something I may have been shopping for yesterday, pop up everywhere on my FB feed!   Not only is Big Brother watching, just about everyone is.

I hate just trying to read news stories online nowaday.  Each site is just blasted with ads.  What really annoys me is every site seems to want to play a video when you open it.  Stop it!!!  I just want to read the news story.

Good afternoon Jon,

I have all Realtor's in a separate section so it probably does not bother me as much. As for me I do not push myself on FB but it is known I do sell real estate.

Make yourself an astonishing day.
