Fresh Florida Blueberry Cheesecake For My Buyers

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams

Florida isn't just about beautiful beaches.  This month in central Florida you can go out and pick fresh blueberries. There is a place on the south side of Lakeland near Bartow called James Farm that has the best blueberries ever!

I emailed the location of the farms  to my previous buyers and sellers with kids to let them know of a low-cost fun daytime activity that actually saves grocery money.  For $12 dollars the family (and the family dog) can forrage for an hour or two between the rows of blueberry plants sampling 4-5 different kinds of as you go.  (I had no clue there were that many types of blueberries) Of course I had to sample each kind a number of times before I could decide which one I wanted to fill my bucket with. I must admit, most of the REALLY REALLY BIG ones (the size of quarters) didn't make it into the bucket. However, I did manage to get one or two of the juciy jewels into my bucket where they later ended up in my breakfast bowl and pie the rest of the week. Good thing I had a few clients to visit this week so I could drop off some of the blueberry cheesecake to them instead of eyeballing it all week in my refrigerator.

Picking fruit was a nice change of pace from spending hundreds of dollars standing in line at the theme parks....and the spoils of the day end up being delicious treats for the family and to share with friends.  The one bucket I picked filled filled what I think was a gallon Ziplock bag.

What was even more fun was figuring out what to make with them after they were picked. One other trick I learned from a lady I met at the field was to spread them all out flat on a cookie sheet before freezing them so they freeze individually...that way when you bag them back up they do no stick to each other. Pretty cool trick.

So this week I delivered my "touch point" notes and business cards with a Sweet Treat! Nothing beats a piece of frozen blueberry cheesecake on a Hot FL afternoon!  I know shamless way to get my business cards back into circulation within my sphere but I figured it was a lot better than the usually Hi How Are You Email!

Giving is half the fun of this job anyway.....got to love what you do and make fun where we can!

Yum, Stephanie Meyer .  Great local post!   My brother is a blueberry grower in Oregon.  I get all the free berries I can handle.  Yay for me.  I also have 5 bushes of my own.  Thanks for the post.

I'm going to see if I can get a bush to grow in my back yard. I have oranges and plums now so this would be a good addition. Thanks for the comment.  I'd love to see the country you live in. Heard it is beautiful too! Maybe after I've done this a while and can aford a trip longer than a quick over night I can see more near you!

Thanks for the comments and the offer. That is a big bite to take...I have many many questions. Most of which revolved around how to do the best CMA - to pick the best houses so I can get my listing prices right while being new.  I know it all comes out in the wash later if over priced no offers but I want to keep my selling time down with max benefit to sellers pockets. Just started doing listings so I am curious to how best to do that part. And back when you were new what was the best place to spend money for leads? There are so many choices you can go broke paying for them, websites and CRM systems....too many to do all the research quickly. Any suggestions on any of those topics and you are my hero!

Hi Stephanie, you will learn a lot of that in the blogs here, and your broker will be able to help a lot with te local aspect of the cma's.

As far as leads, best to never buy them, create your own with lots of great localism posts, like this one.

Let me know any time you would like help with this .

Thanks just doing the small town agent thing. Lived in Tampa, Orlando, Destin, NY, Hoboken and Salt Lake City....all very different. At least here we can still do a few things like neighbors would do and get away with it. Plus had to share to kept it out of my eyesite....it was really really good frozen better than fresh I think. It was like eating blueberry flavored ice cream.

I'm learning quickly that I should have come out here for help sooner. I was hoping to get help locally with the brokers and other agents but everyone is too busy to train their competition. A guy from Orlando suggested I go out of state to ask the questions so that I can learn what I need to in time. I'm on my own, full time, no other income to rest on so trying to get up to speed quickly and survive the first year to become a strong contender around here. We have lots of great role models in the area but they don't have a lot of time to "help" the new kids. Even thought I have been in medical sales and NFL etc for years this tyoe of sale is a different animal. Filtering out the good from the bad buyers and sellers is key and hard to figure out at first. I have a good heart and want to believe in them first.... learning that not everyone has the same high standards or desires to do the right thing. Hoping to do enough my way not to have to change who I am to be really good at this job. Figured all this out is the key. Any words of wisdom you have are welcome and invited.

Oh boy...blueberries. What a great and fantastic opportunity to pick one's very own blueberries. This most definitely will be added to my to-do list.

Welcome to Activerain. I am certain you will have lots of fun and make lots of connections here. Will you share some of your recipes?

Jun 12, 2016 03:34 AM

Sure. I will. I went to a parade of homes recently here and one of the builders had a salad to die for....eveyone was asking him for his recipe so I am working a trade with him. Will post that when I get it.

Best of luck to you and wishing you many smooth closing in the near future.

Stephanie, welcome to ActiveRain!  And how blue are your fingers after all that picking and sampling?  And $12 for a family sounds like a steal!

Jun 12, 2016 05:43 AM

Yes they were a bit blue but washed off pretty easily once I got home. The survivors made it into the pie but a large number were sacrificed on site to make sure I was picking the best tastings ones to share with my group.
