Will Vegas Bob be a snowbird from Alaska?

All the horror stories of people telling me how cold Alaska is and how much they would never live there puzzles me.

For 5 months starting in November to the end of May Vegas Bob stayed in Alaska and it wasn't all that bad. But living in the heat of Las Vegas for over 15 years it was kind of nice to mix up the weather. In fact I found the crisp cold quite refreshing ... ;o)

My wife and I have thought about the winters in Alaska and and if we are retired then we may just stay in Alaska in the winters in Homer Alaska which is much more mild than other areas.

And if the winters are to cold and or we don't like them than we will spend winters in the Philippines and Myanmar where my wife has properties.

So as for the question to the post will Vegas Bob be a snowbird from Alaska, yes and no.

Hello Mark and I totally agree, cannot beat 75 to 80 degree weather in Alaska during the summer months. With 20 hours of sunlight, where's the BBQ ;o)

VB:) I think you are confused my friend you should be staying when it is not the coldest part of the year rather when it is the warmest part of the year in Alaska...and then we can call you Winter Bob in California:))Endre

Hello Endre

VB is not confused! I wanted to spend the Holidays with my family and test how cold Alaska was during the winter. Born and raised in Minnesota, it was quite mild. And I also wanted to spend time through my families BD's and the job I was working on sucked in California.

I made a great choice staying in AK over the winter.

Hmm, I have always thought it would be too cold for me to ever want to live in Alaska, but I will have to check it out sometime, as it might be a good change from the heat I am used to in Arizona.

Living in Alaska is adapting to a difference lifestyle in the winter . . . . I'm sure there are things to do.

Good luck  and success.

A good alter ego is always kind of fun and a kind of fun way to try different things. That sentence sounded a little redundant, but you know what I meant. :)

Shh!

This is a secret that most Alaskans would rather not spread around VB.  Though much of the state is warmer than MN or WI, many would rather keep the arctic temps at the top of mind for most outsiders.

Makes sense to me Bob and many Alaskans don't want people from the lower 48 playing in their sand box

I am still trying to talk my wife into spending a winter there, so many areas are only accessible when the water is frozen.

You are right and many places cannot be driven to by car. But you can fly there in a bush plane, boat, snow machine or dog sled to these places.

Hello Bob

Thanks for stopping by my friend I think in you were to stay in Alaska for 4-5 months, you wouldn't want to come back down to the lower 48. Of course unless family are there and or you couldn't leave your job.
