This is what you get when the cable guy shovels the snow in the attic.
On new construction it is best to get subs to do things in proper order.
What if the cable guy is scheduled to show up AFTER the insulation is blown into the attic space?
Gee whiz, Mr. Wizard, that might not be the best time!
Starting at the attic access opening, the cable guy decides to begin his journey to the rear of the attic where his wiring has entered the house.
My client had paid for EXTRA insulation, bringing the R-value up to 48. That is a lot of extra insulation! He paid for the EXTRA insulation because he wanted EXTRA protection against heat and cold.
Enter the cable guy. "Wow, this stuff is really deep! I'm going to have to move it out of the way!"
Using what must have been a snow shovel, the cable guy pushed and piled insulation to the left and to the right.
A pile here and a pile there. It was a regular blizzard up there!
With his goal in mine, about 35' from the attic access opening, he continued on.
Finally arriving at the rear of the house, he had to move the insulation out of a large area so he could know exactly where to run the cables.
Well, such a large area means moving a whoooole bunch of insulation! Let's just put it over here.
In the area he cleared to drill his holes and run his cables, the insulation ranged from 0" - 6". In other words, he had taken the insulation from the paid-for EXTRA R-48 down to R-0 -R-14. That is not exactly the intent of the EXTRA puff-puff.
Darn good thing my client had paid for all that extra insulation! There's nothing like value when you make a wise purchase! Oh, and the peace of mind!
My recommendation: have a home inspector stop by to make sure you are getting what you paid for when you buy a new house! On new construction inspections anything goes. This home inspector does not know what he might find. But new construction inspections are usually a lot of fun! And when you hear the door bell and the words, "Cable guy!", watch things very carefully.
