It has been my experience that one of the last things new homeowners do is worry about their landscape. After experiencing this myself I can tell you that is, in my view, a mistake.
Sure it is important to insure that the inside of your new home is safe, ready and comfortable. Each of us has priorities that very much matter. However, unless you have unlimited funds, and most of us don't, to hire a landscape architect, and get your outside looking great immediately, landscaping takes time. I planted some tress three years ago and they have yet to really thrive. I opted for perennials in my garden and some survived while many did not. I had a large area of 16" weeds removed from my side yard and replaced with grass seed. There are still blank patches. I had dead trees cut down and removed from around the house to insure safety during storms. I created flower beds and work them each spring and summer. Some do better than others.
The point is, it takes years for your garden to flourish so it is a really important thing to start as soon as you can. You can paint and and remodel in the winter, garden, not so much. How does your garden grow? Mine is better now than it was the first year but not as good as it might have been if I had started immediately.
