Is anyone else out there fed up to the teeth with media brainwashing? I don't allow myself to be brainwashed by anyone! Whenever I hear something on the news that doesn't sit well with me I check the issue out from other sources which either confirm, deny, play down or totally ignore the issue. Even though I don't allow myself to be brainwashed I am however effected by others who fall prey to this problem. You would think that in the age of information and the ability to check numerous sources for reliability that people would no longer allow themselves to be spoon fed but I am coming to the conclusion that is not so. It seems like too many people still prefer to be spoon fed rather than be bothered to check to see if the information they are "hearing" is accurate or not.
Take the real estate market for instance. We hear on the news about rising prices, bidding wars, shortage of inventory, foreclosures, flipping etc. What the media doesn't explain to the general public is that real estate markets are localized and one size does not fit all. Failing to include that message in their reporting has led many buyers and sellers to assume that there is a real hot market out there and it applies to all real estate markets, not so!
In our neck of the real estate market located on the Eastern seaboard in beautiful Palm Coast, Florida I have seen this year in particularly many buyers returning home dissappointed because they could no longer get "steals of deals." Foreclosures now represent less than 2% of the market here, compared to 50% a few years ago. The only "hot" market we have here is for homes priced under $150,000 because there is a shortage of inventory in that price range. Yes, home prices have gone up and sellers of course want to get the best price for their home but asking too much for the home when a market analysis shows the market can't bear the listing price goes right over some seller's heads because they hear a different story on the news.
And so us Realtors have to continue to defend pricing which contradicts the media reports and it seems like in 2016 our job is getting harder to do as too many people believe what they hear from non real estate experts and the real experts have to work harder and longer to convince them otherwise.
