How can fresh paint sell your home?

Summer is a very busy time for the real estate market. And, with many houses being listed during this season, the competition is tough. How do you make sure your home stands out? With a can of fresh paint. Never underestimate the help that a new coat of paint can do to your home.

Here's a list of reasons why painting your home is the first thing you should do.

1. First impressions. A well painted door or entrance will make a great first impression. It’s the initial glimpse of the interior for prospects.Clean every surface and touch up areas where the paint shows marks or nicks. Better yet, paint it throughout in a neutral-colored paint.

2. Size is an illusion. To make the kitchen or any room look bigger, paint it white or off-white.

3. Hides ugly stains. Inspect areas that come in contact with soiled hands and paint them over, especially for stains that are hard to come off.

4. Adds a finishing touch. Painting your home adds a fresh new look to the property, increasing its value and making it more sellable.

Which parts of the house should you pay attention to when you paint?

1. The door. Make sure the front door is well-painted.

2. The special rooms. Bathrooms and kitchens get extra scrutiny. Touch up as needed, with lots of effort in the powder room.

3. Window sills. Sand, prime and paint the most important sills as needed.

4. Woodwork. Touch up chipped or marred paint on chair rails and floor molding.

5. Cabinet doors. Scrub them clean of fingerprints, if possible, or touch up painted areas.

Getting your home ready for the market doesn't have to include major renovations. Even simple tasks like painting can do a lot to improve your chances of selling fast.

I love coffee & real estate. I am out of coffee!

Great post. Couple of funnies. Once I flipped a house, picked the taupe variation of paint color, hired the painter, let him get to work, came back at the end of the day and it looked........ purple. I freaked out. I was so sad. But I opened all windows, staged it and the fresh paint still sold to the first person who looked. One caveat - you guessed it - paint it. Even the slightly wrong color of fresh paint, I believe, still sold that home. Nothing like clean and neat seam lines, either! Still prfitable even with a paint redo. PAINT! It's important!
