One SF neighborhood, various condo choices

So, you're ready to buy your San Francisco condo and begin living your San Francisco Dream.

You have picked the neighborhood that appeals. Now it's time to drill down on the type of condo that most appeals - the size, the price, the style, the amenities.

If you've chosen the north Van Ness corridor (close to the Polk Street, Fillmore Street and Union Street neighborhoods) here are 3 units within 3 blocks to show you the range of possibilities:

1840 Washington #603 (between Van Ness and Franklin) - Built a couple of years ago, this sleek and modern one-bedroom, one-bath unit sports a balcony facing Washington Street. The building has a large, shared roof deck, with views of San Francisco Bay and plenty of seating. Priced at: $995,000.

1840 Washington, SF

1770 Pacific, #302 (corner of Pacific and Franklin) - Just two blocks away is a spacious, remodeled condo with 2-bedrooms, 2-baths. This is an eye-catching, classic building with architectural details like nooks and niches for that signature San Francisco style. You have a separate dining room here too. Priced at: $1,595,000.

1770 Pacific Avenue, SF

1701 Broadway #4 (corner of Broadway and Franklin) - continuing one block north, you'll find a classic "old San Francisco" building, built around 1905. Here you'll find an elegant half-floor Edwardian-style condominium with 3-bedrooms, 2-baths. List price: $2,199,000

1701 Broadway, San Francisco

One neighborhood; 3 distinct styles; 3 different price points; 3 different sizes.

Those are some hefty condo prices but not all people are right for that type of structured living.

Good morning Lottie. Terrific run down of condos in San Francisco. Too rich for me but I enjoyed it.

I'm thinking these prices are more in line with Manhattan than with most other spots, George Souto and Sheila Anderson - other price points are available (lower and higher both) in this neighborhood as well as others. These 3 interested me since they are so close together, and so very different from one another

Hello Ed Silva - condo living isn't for everyone, or not at all points of a life. We traded living in a single-family home in the suburbs for life in a condo in the midst of the city after our granddaughter was grown and off to college. We're loving it.

Good morning Gita Bantwal - I find the variance in condos (price, size and style) fascinating.

As high as property prices are here, it's often better to buy than to rent Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington

It's good for potential buyers to know the variety of condo prices and styles in any given neighborhood in the City, Roy Kelley .

Hi Noah Seidenberg - price points are definitely high, but there are ways of finding less costly condo options - foregoing parking is one and very doable for many; buying a TIC (tenancy in common) unit is another.

Pricing info is an important element when searching for a home. It's also good to know there are a number of price points, not all this high. How's everything at beautiful Lake Tahoe, Laura Allen, Lake Tahoe - Truckee Real Estate for Sale www.TahoeLauraLuxuryHomes.com

High prices aren't the only challenge facing home buyers in San Francisco and the entire area, Debbie Reynolds - lack of housing and extreme competition from other buyers makes it extra tough.
