As you may recall from our prior blog posts, smartphones have won the Internet. The majority of emails are read from a mobile device, and apps are becoming the primary way that consumers access web content.
Creating web content for smartphone viewing may not be intuitive to real estate agents. Fortunately, you can become a mobile-content whiz by following a few rules! Here they are, from Entrepreneur magazine, and our own experience!
Use short, direct headlines. On a smartphone, a long headline can take up the entire screen! Your headline should be a few short words with high impact – while using words that align with your SEO strategies.
For example, include your market area, target audience, or both in your headline. “Smart Tips for Chicago Home Sellers.”
Come out swinging. Your content’s first impression is critical! Begin with your strongest point. Make an attention-grabbing statement that pulls the reader in.
Keep paragraphs short and meaningful. No rambling or fancy words. This doesn’t mean your writing can’t be emotive or entertaining; just be sure to stay on track and put a “breath” between every few sentences.
Avoid redundant words and empty fillers. No need to say “absolutely essential” when saying “essential” will do. Avoid over-used stock phrases like, “all things being equal” and “at the end of the day.”
Check your writing! Read your blog post or email draft on your smartphone. If you see a “wall of words” then it’s time for edits! Use these tips:
- Write clearly using simple, everyday language.
- Look for ways to tighten up your verbiage.
- Use bullet points to organize or information.
- Your article or message should have a good balance of “white space” to content.
