First Day of Summer in Carlsbad
Today is the first day of summer, and our summer weather arrive a few days ago, and fairly suddenly.
The marine layer has been conspicuously absent for the last 5 days and today it's in the low 80s. Not nearly as blistering hot as some other areas but for the coast it's pretty warm.
The heat and the dry air and vegetation is not a good combination and there is at least one significant fire in San Diego County near the Mexican border in a farming area. Predictions are for a more significant fire season in California.
The beaches have been crowded, as one would expect, and we are seeing more traffic, fewer parking spaces, and longer lines at the stores and restaurants, as is usual with the summer season.
And as is traditional, I've now posted my annual summer photo on my profile, something I've been doing for the last 7 years on the first day of summer (or near that time).
Stay tuned for updates on summer things to do in Carlsbad, the upcoming 4th of July festivities, and more.
