First Day of Summer in Carlsbad

Today is the first day of summer, and our summer weather arrive a few days ago, and fairly suddenly.

Terramar Beach in CarlsbadThe marine layer has been conspicuously absent for the last 5 days and today it's in the low 80s. Not nearly as blistering hot as some other areas but for the coast it's pretty warm.

The heat and the dry air and vegetation is not a good combination and there is at least one significant fire in San Diego County near the Mexican border in a farming area. Predictions are for a more significant fire season in California.

The beaches have been crowded, as one would expect, and we are seeing more traffic, fewer parking spaces, and longer lines at the stores and restaurants, as is usual with the summer season.

Jeff DowlerAnd as is traditional, I've now posted my annual summer photo on my profile, something I've been doing for the last 7 years on the first day of summer (or near that time).

Stay tuned for updates on summer things to do in Carlsbad, the upcoming 4th of July festivities, and more.

Why thank you!

I took this selfie back in 2009 after coming home from the beach. That's a very large colorful painting on the wall behind me!

Hi Fred Griffin

Same to you! We have sorta jumped right into warm weather and it's supposed to be high 70s or low 80s for another week. Interestingly, 20 miles inland it's about 100, and in the desert 2 hours inland it's supposed to hit 115 or so! I'll take coastal Carlsbad!

Now that I have been doing this I sorta hate to stop. I still have the glasses and the hat and I think I look pretty much the same with them on! LOL

I froze my fanny off the two times I visited there in June.  Wore a hoodie to the Padres game it was so cold.

Tammy Lankford,

Lots of people think SoCal is always warm or even hot, and that's simply not true, as I have learned. And being near the coast can bring chilly evenings and ocean breezes, even in the summer.

This is my favorite pic of you! I wanna see property with THAT guy--he looks like he's laid back and COOL.

Here is hoping for little fire damage throughout this season. For all.

Thanks Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 . It's certainly more relaxed and less formal.  I appreciate the compliment.

There are some pretty nasty fires buring right now and the weather does not help. Hoping for minimal damage, getting them under control and most importantly no injuries or deaths!
