Good morning Kimberly. I think if it works it is wonderful but life is generally more complicated than a sitcom.

Hi Kimberly - no reason it couldn't work out nicely. Another living situation is for a senior with extra rooms to rent to college or other youngs roommates in exchange for some caretaking services as partial rent. Obviously, care needs to be taken, and it's not for everyone. When it works it's a win-win.

I am seeing more and more of this and the builders are even building homes come with a guest suite that is on par with a guest home.

You know, I can see that trend working. My sister lives in Weiser, Idaho.  When I visted her a few years ago, I noticed the little town had a herd of widows living there.  You'd find them all over town in groups walking from shop to shop, or having lunch together.  They were always talking and laughing together.  I thought, how perfect is that!

I am seeing situations like this much more than in years past. Many workout for a while, others not so much.
