I'm not a SEO guru and I don't play one on TV. What I know I have learned from both others and through pain staking trial and error. I learned so much of it right here among the pages of ActiveRain. Headlines folks, headlines are where it's at.
It took me a long time to learn that consumers find my posts when my headline corresponds to what they are typing in the google search bar as close as possible.
For example The post at the bottom of that screen shot that is about the lake levels when the power plant closed a little more than a year ago. Now you might wonder how that might tie to business or real estate, we'll I'll explain... would you buy lake property if you thought the lake was going to be drained because the power plant had closed? Of course you wouldn't.
That little jewel written back in 2009... I have had over 200 phone calls and 16 sales as a direct result of me writing this post. If you search "who lists foreclosures on lake sinclair" it still ranks on page 1 after all these years. I have to wonder how many people didn't tell me they called because of this post and registered on my site and I attribute their buying a house to something else when it was really this post that got them to call or register on our site.
Another great post has been about lease lots in my area. Something all buyers read on some listing and then search. Sometimes we pick up buyers for being knowledgeable about lease lots and forthcoming with information. And My market reports are always dated in the headlines. The date seems to help keep newer information at the top of the search. Last time I checked an incognito search for "lake sinclair market report" 9 out 10 of the organic results were my blog posts, my pinterest board and my site.
Headlines matching what consumers would type for a search keeps me ranking on Google. I promise you that if you type even the broad terms "lake sinclair homes for sale" you will find me. More specific terms like subdivisions and street names combined with Lake Sinclair and you don't just find me, I dominate the first page. The phrase "best real estate brokerage on lake sinclair" brought the 4 activerain blog posts on the page one results. I'll take it. It's a phrase that I see a lot on my google analytics. And how cool is it that posts I wrote years ago still rank. And by the way, this was done with an incognito search.
