Thursday, May 1, 2008 is the official National Day of Prayer.
Considering the economic and moral condition of our nation, the National Day of Prayer will be to many a day of reflection as well as petition to the God of our Fathers who founded this country on Biblical principles from which we as a whole have strayed.
There will be gatherings around the nation in homes, places of worship, and yes even schools & places of public assembly to pray for our nation.
2 Chronicles 7 vs. 14 says "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
People will pray for the leadership of this nation, for our military, for our people. We will ask that God join us together to make a difference in this world. We will ask that we be restored as a "light" to those who live in darkness and despair but first and foremost we will ask for God to forgive us for the sins of our nation.
We will ask for God to forgive us for trying to eliminate Him from our public life by using a statement concerning the separation of church and state to be twisted instead of keeping to the original intent which was to keep the government from establishing a national religion or church.
We will ask that He forgive us for abortion and the generation we have robbed of sisters, brothers, cousins, and friends. We need forgiveness for allowing this silent massacre of young people. Their blood cries out to God the giver of life. We need to stand up and take responsibility for standing idly by and allowing this holocaust. We need the mothers who thought they were doing a good thing to forgive us for not allowing them to know what abortion does to them. They are victims too and live with unfathomable guilt for the decision they made based upon false expectations.
Psalms 121 vs 1-2 says "I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
We, as a nation, need God to intervene on our behalf so won't you join together and pray? It can help to make our nation stronger and more united.
So May 1st is the day. Please join this national movement and pray at the place you choose.
Here in New Hampshire there will be a prayer breakfast at Marriot Courtyard/Grappone Conference Center in Concord, followed by prayer at the State House. Breakfast begins at 7:30 am and costs $20.
