All Time Record Temperature In Sedona On the Summer Solstice!

Hottest Day On Record In Sedona

3º Higher Than Previous Record

112.7º

I am always the first person to say that Sedona is much cooler than Phoenix or the Valley.  Well, yesterday, our temps were not far off of record setting temps in Phoenix!  I never thought I would ever see a temperature as high as 112 in Sedona.  We have spent many vacations on the Colorado River where temps can hover around 120º. So heat is not foreign to us but NEVER in Sedona.

Normally - the coolest part of the day is right after sun up, unless a front moves in.  During summer, we run the AC from 11 AM to about 9 PM.  Just a day earlier, it was 61º in the AM!  I could tell we were headed for a record when that AM temp only got down to 74º.  We can cool the whole house down in a short time just by opening windows....not yesterday!!

Hottest Part of the Day

Where we live, the hottest part of the day is around 3:30 PM to 4:45 PM.  As you can see, the hottest temperature was 112.7º at 1:34 PM.  Clouds started to roll in and the temperature dropped from that point forward.

I feel pretty confident that this record should stand for awhile.  The record that was smashed was set back on June 29th, 2013 at 109.1º.

Hi Will Hamm - We are usually in the same weather system. 99ª is pretty darn hot for Denver.  Flagstaff was also in the 90º's.

Sheri

It's a good pool day in Arizona.

As I'm writing the comment it's a mild 84 in Boca Raton Florida.

Good luck and success.

Sherri,

Nothing like records being broken.  We hit 81 and now the ocean breezes have taken over.  It was a bit warmer yesterday.  The hotter areas are sadly where the firefighters are working.  A

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel - A, we have to keep those people and the firefighters in our thoughts and prayers.  I watched a firenado coming off one of those fires and realized that this is what probably happened to the Yarnell firefighters a couple of years ago. Extremely dangerous conditions.

Sheri- wow, and is it the dry heat?  We don't have temps anywhere near the temp you have.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE®

HI Kathy Streib - normally we don't have temps like this either! LOL.  The humidity is in the single digits so it is not that uncomfortable. Unfortunately, for some, you can be lulled into thinking you don't need to drink water and next thing you know - heat stroke.

Good morning Sheri. I keep hear about these crazy temperatures, that is really hot, dry heat or not.

Hi Joe Petrowsky - so true! but I have lived in Houston, visited Chicago, Miami and Nebraska in the summer months. I will take this dry heat any day over the humidity.  One of my neighbors summers in CT and when they got back there in May it was just about freezing.  They did not bring any warm clothes!  I am sure that has changed by now!

Yes, but it was a dry heat!    (Still awful hot, though)

Hi Gabe Sanders - I melt in the humidity but I do OK out here.  This weather can be deadly though, because you don't realized that you are getting dehydrated. 5 people gone so far in Phoenix... sad...

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE , Weather is just crazy everywhere.  We are suppose to have a terrible storm this evening between 9 pm and 2 am.  Tornado weather, high winds, hail and a lot of rain is forecast.  I hope it cools down in your area.

Larry Johnston - It is better now! Low 100ºs - When you have low humidity it really is less noticeable.

Hi Jan Green - It was a surprise to us.  When it says 118º for Phoenix we usually subtract 10-15º.  But we were close to the Valley's temps. I don't ever recall that!  It's better now.

Good Morning Sheri - but your high temporatures are not as bad as ours without the humidity.  I would travel to Arizona quite a bit and noticed that difference.

Jun 22, 2016 08:29 PM
Sheri Sperry - MCNE®

Hi Grant Schneider - I used to live in Houston and KNOW humidity. I am not a fan. 10% is as high as the humidity got during the heat of the day. This is where that saying "dry heat" comes from. But it does make a big difference !
