My wife and I had the pleasure of attending the annual fund raising dinner for the Music Conservatory of Westchester. We were invited by our neighbor, Rodd Berro, who had been president of the organization for the last 7 years. Rodd was honored last night with the distinguished leadership award. I took this picture of Rodd below with my iPhone.
The Music Conservatory of Westchester has a tremendous outreach including working with our veterans and people with physical and mental challenges. Music is therapy. You can learn more on this link.
The most compelling story was that of Matthew Welling of White Plains, NY. This 10 year old received two bone marrow transplants before age two. He has a rare genetic bone disorder that left him legally blind.
In spite of that has learned to play instruments, arrange music, and write songs. He performed at Radio City Music Hall and he performed for us last night.
My picture is not the greatest but Matt is the young man with the white pants and blue blazer. What an inspiration. This young man has passion and is very positive.
